Blooming Briefs: Fruit of the Plume

Ten Minute Play Contest

What is it? - Blooming Briefs is a new 10-minute play contest for Texas playwrights. Chosen plays will be presented during the Saturday evening Gala at the TNT Annual Conference in Tyler, TX. The project introduces attendees to the talents of four Texas playwrights and the selected playwrights have an opportunity to promote their plays and win $75. An additional cash prize will be awarded at the conference via audience acclaim.

Details:

  • Entrant: Must be current resident of Texas.

  • No Entry Fee, but you do need to fill out and submit an Entry Form.

  • Length: Plays may not be longer than 10 minutes, nor shorter than 5 minutes.

  • Submission: Plays must be submitted digitally to texastheatres@sbcglobal.net - emailed only (no hard copies accepted) - One (1) Microsoft Word file or pdf file; Limit: 2 scripts per playwright

  • Type Size: 12 pt Times New Roman or 12 pt Courier.

  • Format: Standard Stage Format. Final Draft format is acceptable only if sent as a PDF file. Blind submission - please do not have your name anywhere on the submitted script.

  • Theme: Open but each play should include a "rose" in some major way. Could be a character, a color, an actual rose, or a play about a "rose" - could be a plant or a person that is not actually seen on the stage.

  • Type: The play should not be heavy drama, but can have a dramatic element. The play should generally be a light-hearted or heart-warming comedy.

  • Characters: The play should be written for a maximum of five actors. Can have more characters but the actors would have to be able to double.

  • Production Requirements: Set, props and costume requirements should be minimal, something easily assembled by a producing group. Lighting should also be easily accomplished - general full stage lighting preferred but blackouts could be accomplished.

  • Submission Deadline: January 31, 2012

Four ten-minute plays will be selected by a panel of three judges (blind submission) to be presented at the TNT Annual Conference Gala on Saturday night, March 17th, 2012. Audience members will vote for their favorite play with cash donations - with winnings to be split between TNT and the winning playwright.

Selected Plays will be announced February 25th, 2012

Selected playwrights must become members of TNT if not a member already and must either register for the full conference (Friday and Saturday) - $150, or register for the full day Saturday ($100).

The submission deadline is Monday, January 31st. The deadline for the selection panel to read the plays is Monday, February 20th. By February 25th, the four plays selected go to the four directors so they have time to prepare them for the conference.

All directors and their casts must be registered for the full conference or for the full day Saturday ($100). If a selected playwright has a director and actors they want to present their play, please notify the TNT office when the play is submitted.
