1) The Texas Nonprofit Theatres (TNT) POPS! New Play Project is open to any playwright, although submissions must be in English.
2) TNT cannot accept translation or adaptation of any previously published or performed work, even if it is in public domain.
3) Submission scripts cannot be previously published. "Previously published materials" are defined as any script published by a publishing house (i.e. Samuel French, New Dramatists), or any script produced where royalties were paid to the playwright. The submitted script can have only one (1) prior performance, staged reading, public presentation, workshop or editorial input, and can have only one (1) prior win in a playwriting competition.
4) To ensure anonymity during the judging process, no personal information may appear anywhere on the submitted script.
5) Playwrights should submit the following for consideration in the Texas Nonprofit Theatres POPS! New Play Project:
- Between Monday, August 1, 2011 and midnight Central Standard Time Wednesday, September 14, 2011. Scripts received before or after these dates will not be accepted.
- One (1) electronic copy of script, in 12pt Times New Roman or Final Draft software font, in Standard Stage Format including:
a) Cast list
b) Character description(s)
c) Set requirements.
- Completed TNT POPS! New Play Project Submission Form (a download form from the TNT Website.)
- Non-refundable payment of $20 fee upon submission, payable through the TNT Store or via mail, postmarked within 24 hours of submission date. No cash please; credit card (via TNT Store), check or money order accepted.
- Incomplete submissions will be ineligible for the TNT POPS! New Play Project.
6) Playwrights must guarantee that they have sole rights to all copyrighted material contained in the script. "Copyrighted material(s)" are defined as any previously published songs, letters, articles, and/or works of art not originally authored by the playwright. Proof of such guarantee must be presented at time of submission.
7) While all reasonable care will be taken, TNT cannot accept responsibility for loss of, or damage to, submitted scripts.
8) TNT and their associated contest judges will destroy all electronic script submissions after the close of the program.
9) By submitting a script for consideration, the playwright agrees that a TNT Member Theatre may produce a staged reading of the cutting of the script during the TNT Annual Conference. Furthermore, the playwright agrees to waive all royalty for the staged reading during the TNT Annual Conference.
10) By submitting a script for consideration, the playwright grants, upon acceptance to the project, TNT and its selected producing theatre(s) the exclusive production rights to the script for the 18 month period following the staged reading at the Annual Conference. A TNT Member Theatre will perform the script within an 18-month period immediately following the staged reading of the script at the TNT Annual Conference.
11) The playwright agrees they will not publish or perform the winning script until 30 days after the production by the TNT Member theatre is complete.
12) The playwright understands the judges' decisions are final and no correspondence concerning the results can be entered into.
